Visitors and residents of Laurel must take some time to visit Montpelier Mansion. This structure, constructed between 1781 and 1785, is a fine example of Georgian architecture. The Mansion sits atop 70 acres of breathtaking parkland. Major Thomas Snowden and his wife Anne were the original owners of the Mansion and were visited by such guests as George Washington and Abigail Adams. Montpelier Mansion is a designated National Historic Landmark and operates as a house museum as well as a rental facility. Various rooms have been furnished to preserve the feel of the late 18th century until about 1830. A summer house also built in the 18th century is accessible through a boxwood-lined pathway which runs through a garden. The staff, along with the Friends of Montpelier volunteer organization, offers tours, concerts, festivals, re-enactments, exhibits, lectures and seminars. The Mansion can also be reserved for weddings, receptions, luncheons and meetings.

The Laurel Museum is another interesting place to visit for residents and visitors alike. The Laurel Museum was originally an 1840’s mill workers’ home which was constructed by mill owners to house their employees. The structure is built of brick and stone and is roughly 2,600 square feet in size. Exhibits throughout the museum are devoted to the history of Laurel and its surrounding community. Items on display on the main floor include collections of books, photographs, tools, personal artifacts, textiles and oral histories. A gift shop, audio-visual area, and additional exhibits are located on the bottom floor.
